You imagine, we build.

We have been building websites since before broadband. The web has come a long way since then.

Early websites could display text-only content with a few hyperlinks, but then came animated GIFs, flash, frame-sets, tiny low-quality images, early JavaScript, and code which had to accommodate the browser wars, too.

Today’s user experience relies on fast websites (even on 3G), responsive content which scales to smartphones, tablets and desktop devices, and rich content such as hi-resolution images, videos – all navigated via clean, intuitive user interfaces.

Centre Neptune can help. We keep up with developments, so talk to us about your needs, and let us build you a website that really works – for you, and for your clients.

Our process.

Unless you are experienced, the process of building a website can seem daunting, overwhelming and confusing. We get it. Let us help.

Just like building a house, there are a great many aspects to consider in web design. Some choices will affect others. All things are connected.

We discovered that our clients gain confidence from seeing an overview of our usual design & build process. We have described the steps below for you, so whenever we talk, you can feel confident about the current state and direction of your project.

From start to finish, there are usually six steps:

Step #1 – Discovery.

First we like to meet, have an informal chat, and get an initial feel for your requirements.

This might include:

  • Purpose – what is your website for?
  • Audience – who will be using your website?
  • Functionality – what should your website be able to do?
  • Content – what will your site be displaying?
  • Budget – how much your requirements might cost.

Don’t worry if you are not an expert in web technologies or jargon. We are here to guide and advise you throughout the entire process.

This first meeting allows us to get a feel for the scope of your project.

Step #2 – Proposal

Next, we will carefully investigate your requirements, then propose a development plan.

Our plan will include a list of features & elements to be included, an estimated timescale, and of course an estimate of all the costs involved.

At this stage, all aspects of the proposal may be discussed and amended, until we all agree on the final scope of work.

Once everything is agreed, you grant us approval, and we start the initial build of your new website. Exciting!

Step #3 – Initial build.

We create, then present you with a first-draft version of your website, using dummy content and placeholder visuals where needed.

This will let you experience and explore what your site might look like, and give you a feel for the overall direction of the build.

At this stage we can easily explore changes, and agree key design aspects, including:

  • Colour palette
  • Fonts
  • Typography
  • Navigation
  • User experience (UX)
  • User interface (UI)
  • Overall style
  • Assets, including text, images, and videos

Once you approve the initial build, we can move into population.

Step #4 – Population

Population is the act of exchanging dummy content with proper assets.

Assets can include such things as:

  • Text copy
  • Images
  • Videos
  • Embedded content (i.e. YouTube & social media)
  • Downloadable content (files, documents)
  • Product information (for e-commerce sites)

These might have been supplied or sourced by you, or we may have created them on your behalf.

The time required for the population stage will naturally depend on the size of your website, the quantity of content involved, and whether any supplied assets require editing to be web-ready.

Once everything is in place, we can start fine-tuning.

Step #5 – Fine tuning.

We show you the final version of your website, get feedback, then carry out any small adjustments that may be necessary.

It is perfectly normal to tweak a few things, but changes here should be minimal. We can certainly accommodate larger amendments, however you understand there may be additional charges if they fall outside our originally agreed scope of work.

Tuning complete, all that remains is to run final tests, and deliver your website.

Step #6 – Delivery.

We perform a series of final checks on your website, and hand it over to you.

Our checks ensure everything works as it should, and the property is ready for you to take ownership. Our comprehensive checklist includes:

  • Navigation menus & links.
  • Contact forms & emails.
  • Third-party functionality (mailing lists, social media connections)
  • Customer journey (for e-commerce websites)
  • Payment gateway testing (for e-commerce websites)
  • Granting access to search engines.
  • Full backup prior to launch.
  • Removal of any Coming Soon pages.

Project complete. Good job. Tell your friends. 🙂
